Members of a local of the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) display their banner and cheer for the benefit of the photographer.  The UFCW was born in 1979 as a result of a merger of the Retail Clerks International Association and the Amalgamated Meat Cutters & Butcher Workmen.  In the rear can be seen the columns of the New York Public Library on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue.
